What is Timed-Restricted Eating?

What is timed-restricted eating? Are there any health benefits to it?
Timed-restricted eating is also called intermittent fasting. Fasting is an eating pattern that includes hours or days of no food or eating a very small amount (less than 500 calories/day).
Most people that try this diet, do it to try to lose weight. But there are a lot of studies out there that show people who participate in intermittent fasting compared to simple calorie restriction, and weight loss results are pretty comparable!
There are several benefits to fasting. It has been shown to improve fasting insulin levels (score!), reduces the size of fat cells, increases energy levels, and improves metabolic markers.
So what’s the catch?
The tough part about fasting is that it is super highly affected by exposure. So, if you disrupt the cycle, like have an extended eating window, it can lead to metabolic changes like obesity.
If you decide to try the 16:8 window (eating during an eight hour window and fast for 16), don’t cram an entire day of calories in eight hours. It is simple calorie restriction. The same as a low calorie diet. But if this method appeals to you more, go for it!
Eat a colorful plate, and support local farmers.
