Superfoods!
There really isn't a definition of what makes a food a superfood. It is just a food that has a large quantity of antioxidants, phytochemicals, vitamins, and minerals. Quick refresher, antioxidants are substances that protect the body from damage leading to health issues. Phytochemicals are the chemicals in plants that are responsible for colors and smells. Vitamins are essential nutrients that your body needs to function properly. And finally, minerals. Minerals are inorganic and essential for health i.e., muscle contractions, nerve transmission, blood clotting...
If there is a food that is high in vitamins and minerals and wards off diseases and keeps me healthy - SIGN ME UP! There is no one particular food that can give you all of the essential vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and phytochemicals. That is why it is so insanely important to eat balanced and eat a wide variety of nutrient-rich food. A balanced meal includes fruits, vegetables, lean protein, whole grains, legumes, and nuts. It is low in sodium, the bad kind of fat, and processed foods. Add in a bit of exercise and you are golden!
