One B.A.S a Day

On May 1st, I invite you to the one B.A.S per day challenge. A B.A.S is a Big-Ass-Salad. I keep seeing this idea over-and-over and have researched all the reasons why this is a ‘thing’ and feel it is worthy of sharing with you.
Honestly, I can’t find any reason not to do this (unless you go overboard with dressing and fatty toppings). A little bit of common sense is needed in this challenge (mix in grilled chicken instead of fried, low fat cheese instead of full-fat, etc…). There are so many reasons that this is a green light:
- Your digestive system will thank you for it. Put some edamame on top of your salad, or green beans, maybe even chickpeas. Salads are already pretty high in fiber which helps with digestion, but top it with a few legumes and you’ll feel full longer.
- You will have less room for the processed stuff. If you add a BAS to your meals for the day, chances are pretty high you will be reminded to make more nutritious choices. Having a pre-planned meal ensures your efforts are less likely to go to waste.
- Energy! Salads are packed full of nutrients. Essential vitamins, minerals, fiber, and antioxidants. These are all things that contribute to overall energy. If you skip the simple fats, sugars, and carbs, over time, you will not feel that slump that comes after lunch.
- Hydration. A lot of the vegetables that go into salad have naturally high water content. Things like lettuce, cucumber, and tomatoes.
- Reduces your risk of disease. Salads make it simple to increase your daily vegetable intake. Vegetables have a ton of health benefits and are associated with a reduced risk of chronic diseases, including certain types of cancer, heart disease, and obesity.
There are a lot more reasons to eat a salad a day, but these are my favorite. If you need more, message me. Are you in? Let’s do this!
